Health Care Industry Essay -- Business, Employee Satisfaction

Health care industry is healing from the recent shortage in qualified professionals. The retention of professionals and overall employee satisfaction has been affected by the recent economical changes. Need for change has been pressured amongst health care managers for almost a decade now. The federal government has predicted, by 2020, retirement will contribute to a shortage of approximately 24,000 doctors and nearly one million nurses. The organizational environment appears to be the focus of the human resource consultants that are providing input in the change. The most challenging aspect of management today in the health care industry is employee satisfaction because retaining qualified professionals has decreased. To survive and be successful in this industry will require flexibility and adaptability. The author intends to help explain how changes in the health care environment necessitate changes in how health care managers actively manage. A move from traditional health care w orkforce model to the future will likely be positively viewed by staff and the organization, once thoroughly reviewed. It is more frequently being suggested that health care managers are so focused on increased size that they are no longer appropriately serving the employees concerns. Ensuring employees are motivated in these uncertain times are daily challenge for managers. Factors that will help to improve employee satisfaction are acknowledging the possibility of work-family conflict, and improving the work environment. Health care professionals have power to dictate the terms of their employment, and employers are finding that flexibility is central to attracting and retaining quality professionals. The author’s findings are based on experience in ... ...etention, and offer a more realistic job preview. Research indicates a few ways to successful strategies leading to improving work environment by utilizing employee satisfaction on the job. They are: linking employee satisfaction with patient satisfaction, using fun to increase employee satisfaction and ling employee satisfaction with employee retention. Health care human resource managers will continue to monitor the levels of employee satisfaction within the industry, reduce turnover, through a well planned strategy. Future research should attempt to determine if there is a gender bias in employee satisfaction in the industry. More emphasizes on procedural justice affects on the work environment along with gender specific views. New hires would be attracted to an organization in the industry with a reputation for fairness in work schedules and work life balance.

Complexometric Determination of Water Hardness

Complexometric Determination of Water Hardness Abstract: Create a standardized EDTA solution for use as a titration solution to determine the hardness of water from a single random sample. Introduction: Using a calibrated EDTA solution to determine water hardness from a random sample. Essentially the Na2EDTA solution reacts one to one with the mineral content of a sample of tap water and by use of a standardized solution a ppm estimation can be obtained for the hardness of water.Current knowledge in this area is well understood and procedures used follow generally accepted guidelines. Method: First the calibration was completed using an approximately . 7340g Na2EDTA/500mL solution. A 1. 000g/L calcium ion solution was used as the primary standard with approximately 3mL of ammonium chloride as a buffer and Erichrome Black T as the indicator solution. Three titrations were performed to ensure accuracy of the molarity of the Na2EDTA solution. The 1. 000g/L calcium ion solution had to be converted to M so 1g/L/100. g=. 009990M calcium ion solution. Titration 1: 10. 00mL CaCO3; . 00999MCaCO3X. 0100L= . 0000999mol CaCO3 . 0000999mol EDTA/. 002507L = . 00398M Na2EDTA Titration 2: 10. 00mL CaCO3; . 00999MCaCO3X. 0100L= . 0000999mol CaCO3 . 0000999mol EDTA/. 02339L = . 004271M Na2EDTA Titration 3: 9. 95mL CaCO3; . 00999MCaCO3X. 0100L= . 0000994mol CaCO3 . 0000994mol EDTA/. 02367L = . 004196M Na2EDTA Since the first titration is so far out from the other two it was thrown out giving an average result of . 04233M Na2EDTA Sample B was used in this experiment with at 25mL and three titrations were performed to ensure accuracy with the same buffer solution (appx 3mL ammonium chloride @ pH10). A magnetic stirrer and standard burette were used in the procedure with a read accuracy to . 01mL. Eriochrome Black T was the indicator solution. Results: Titration 1: 12. 52mL Na2EDTA; . 00423M Na2EDTA x . 01252L = . 0000530 mol . 0000530mol/. 02496L = . 00212M hardness Titration 2: 12 . 19mL Na2EDTA; . 00423M Na2EDTA x . 01219L = . 0000516 mol . 0000516mol/. 2499L = . 00206M hardness Titration 1: 12. 23mL Na2EDTA; . 00423M Na2EDTA x . 01223L = . 0000517 mol .0000517mol/. 02505L = . 00206M hardness (. 00212M+. 00206M+. 00206M)/3 = . 00208M Discussion: The results are very consistent however the website for checking the data is no longer valid. Provided that the titration solution was calibrated properly the results from the experiment to determine the hardness of water should be accurate with a margin of consistency between samples vs. average hardness @ 1. 89% at most for any of the three samples.

Human Health And The Environment Gmos - 1668 Words

Scott Fowler BIOL 270 Capstone Paper 4/25/16 Human Health and the Environment: GMOs Introduction: What is the issue? What is a GMO? If you were to ask your average person on the street, they would probably tell you that they know they’re bad, but don’t know what they are. Many people know it has something to do with â€Å"genetics† or â€Å"modification,† but what sort of genetics? And how or why are these things being modified? Put simply, GMO is an acronym for Genetically Modified Organism. GMO and genetically engineered organism are frequently used synonymously. According to the Non-GMO Project (2016), genetically modified organisms are â€Å"organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, there are several causes for concern when it comes to GMOs. This has led to the formation of groups like the Non-GMO Project, Millions Against Monsanto, GMO Free Project USA, U.S. Right To Know, and Food and Water Watch. These groups and organizations have a variety of goals, but mos tly focus on fighting corporate control of American agriculture, advocating for clean and healthy food, seeking transparency and accountability within our nation’s food system, and educating consumers about the perceived dangers of GMOs (GMO-Awareness.com, 2014). Many consumers are against GMOs because they are not natural, they are created by companies that seek to control the American agriculture system, growing them damages our environment, and many believe there are significant health risks yet to be discovered. Although the issue of using GMOs in American agriculture and food is quite complex and controversial, the science behind creating a genetically modified organism is fairly straight-forward. What is the science involved? There are several basic steps to creating a genetically modified organism, but before we get to that, let’s take a look at the history behind GMOs. The predecessor to modern day genetic engineering was artificial selection, or selective breeding. Although the science is much different, the idea of selecting a desirable trait and influencing the DNA of the organism to express that trait
